Arab League condemns Iranian strikes on member states

On March 8, the Secretary General of the Arab League, Ahmed Aboul Gheit, officially condemned Iranian missile and drone strikes against member states, calling them a strategic error. The conflict escalated on February 28 when U.S. and Israeli forces initiated operations against Iran, leading to Iranian retaliatory strikes against Israel and Gulf countries hosting American military installations. Aboul Gheit emphasized that Arab nations are not parties to this conflict and had prohibited the use of their territory or airspace for military operations. Regional mediators, including Oman, Qatar, and Egypt, had previously attempted to prevent the escalation of hostilities. Iran's President reportedly issued an apology on March 7 to neighboring countries for targeting American facilities, while maintaining a right to respond to attacks originating from regional states. Arab League foreign ministers held an emergency virtual meeting to discuss the implications of these strikes on regional security. The organization reiterated its position that the attacks lack justification and undermine previous diplomatic peace efforts.
