Cyprus police to conduct nationwide road safety campaign

The Cyprus Police is launching a nationwide road safety campaign starting Monday, March 9, and running through Sunday, March 15, 2026. The initiative focuses on the mandatory use of seat belts in both front and rear seats, as well as the use of child car seats and booster seats. This operation is being conducted in coordination with the European Roads Policing Network, known as ROADPOL, as part of a wider European initiative. Police officials cite statistical data from 2022 to 2024, noting that 50.9% of drivers and passengers killed in vehicle accidents during that period were not wearing seat belts. The campaign aims to reduce serious injuries and fatalities through increased monitoring and public awareness. Officers will be stationed on roads across the country to enforce these safety regulations throughout the week.
