Greece deploys military assets to support Cyprus amid regional crisis
Greek Minister of National Defence Nikos Dendias confirmed in an interview with To Vima that Greece has deployed military assets to the Republic of Cyprus to provide defensive support during the ongoing regional crisis. The deployment includes four F-16 fighter jets and two frigates, the Kimon and the Psara, with the latter equipped with the Centauros anti-drone system. This move follows a reported drone strike on the British Akrotiri air base. Minister Dendias emphasized that this action is a national obligation aimed at protecting the Republic of Cyprus and its residents. He noted that the intervention has encouraged other European Union members, including France, Germany, Spain, and Italy, to increase their defensive presence. During his visit to Cyprus, the Minister received appreciation from President Nikos Christodoulides and Defense Minister Vasilis Palmas. Dendias pledged continued support for the island throughout the duration of the crisis.
