Gender equality committee report on workplace conditions in Cyprus

On the occasion of International Women's Day, the Committee for Gender Equality in Employment and Vocational Training released a report regarding women's professional status in Cyprus. The data indicates that one in three women in Cyprus has experienced sexual harassment at work, with the figure rising to over 40% among younger women. Cyprus currently scores 60.9 points on the EU Gender Equality Index, remaining below the European average. A 2026 European survey on violence against women, conducted by FRA, Eurostat, and EIGE, confirms that workplace harassment remains a significant issue. The committee highlighted persistent labor market inequalities, including a gender pay gap and the concentration of women in lower-paying sectors. Furthermore, 33% of women in Cyprus are employed in low-wage positions. The report also notes that women continue to shoulder a disproportionate burden regarding the care of children and dependents.
