German frigate FGS Nordrhein-Westfalen arrives in Limassol
On Sunday morning, the German frigate FGS Nordrhein-Westfalen (F223) arrived at the port of Limassol, Cyprus. The vessel, a Baden-Württemberg-class (F125) frigate, is currently deployed as part of the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) Maritime Task Force. Its primary mission is to contribute to maritime security in the Eastern Mediterranean amidst ongoing regional tensions. This arrival marks the formal replacement of the German frigate Sachsen-Anhalt, which has concluded its six-month rotation in the region. According to official reports, the deployment serves to support UNIFIL operations and protect regional stability. While some local media sources initially speculated on the purpose of the ship's presence, the official mandate remains consistent with international peacekeeping duties. The FGS Nordrhein-Westfalen has visited the Limassol port on several occasions in the past.
