Ayia Napa installs radar-equipped speed monitoring signs on Nissi Avenue

The Municipality of Ayia Napa has installed a modern radar-equipped speed display sign on Nissi Avenue to improve road safety for residents and visitors. The system displays the speed of passing vehicles and uses interactive icons, such as a smiling or sad face, to provide feedback on speed limit compliance. If a driver exceeds the speed limit, the display hides the numerical speed value and shows only a sad icon to discourage competitive speeding. The radar technology captures data from both directions, including vehicle counts and speed statistics. This information will be used by the municipality to assess traffic conditions and plan future safety interventions. The equipment is connected to the internet, allowing for remote monitoring and data management. The radar system is capable of detecting vehicle speeds at a distance of up to 300 meters.
