Two fires occur in the mountainous Limassol region on Sunday
On Sunday, March 8, 2026, two separate fires occurred in the mountainous region of Limassol, Cyprus. The first fire broke out in the morning in the area between the villages of Omodos and Mandria. This fire consumed approximately three hectares of wild vegetation near an agricultural road and an abandoned livestock pen. Authorities responded around 09:30 with four fire engines from local stations, supported by two vehicles from the Department of Forests, and managed to control the blaze despite strong winds. A second fire occurred later in the day near the community of Anogyra, which was promptly extinguished by local authorities before it could spread. Fire Service spokesperson Andreas Kettis stated that, given the environmental conditions, both fires are suspected to be the result of arson. Police and firefighting services are currently investigating the causes of both incidents.
