Thirteen injured in head-on school bus collision near Agios Epifanios
On Tuesday at approximately 13:55, a head-on collision occurred on the Agios Epifanios-Palaichori road involving a school bus transporting students from the Second Regional Gymnasium of Nicosia and a private vehicle. The accident resulted in 13 injuries, including 10 students and three adults, comprising the two drivers and one chaperone. Emergency services deployed six ambulances to transport the injured to the Nicosia General Hospital for medical evaluation. Initial reports suggest the driver of the private vehicle, who was en route to undergo dialysis, may have lost consciousness, leading the vehicle to veer into the opposite lane. While the collision was severe enough to trigger airbags, officials stated that the students' injuries are not considered life-threatening. The Minister of Education and the Minister of Health visited the hospital to monitor the situation. Traffic in both directions was suspended for approximately one and a half hours until the vehicles were removed and the scene was cleared. Police are currently investigating the exact circumstances of the incident.
