Elias Charalambous resigns as head coach of Steaua Bucuresti

Elias Charalambous has officially resigned as the head coach of Steaua Bucuresti (FCSB) following a 1-3 home defeat against Universitatea Cluj on March 9, 2026. The Cypriot coach announced his departure during a post-match press conference, stating he had made the decision before the game. He served the club for nearly three years, having been appointed on March 30, 2023. During his tenure, he oversaw 170 matches, achieving 88 wins, 41 draws, and 41 defeats. Charalambous led the team to two Romanian SuperLiga titles and two Romanian Super Cup trophies. He expressed that the club needed a change in leadership to improve its performance and reach its European qualification goals. He leaves the team in 7th place in the league standings after 30 matches.
