Assembly of Experts discusses Iran's leadership succession

Hossein Mozaffari, a member of Iran’s Assembly of Experts, stated there is hope that a decision regarding the next Supreme Leader will be reached within 24 hours. The Assembly, consisting of 88 clerics, is preparing to convene for the election process. Meanwhile, The New York Times reports that Iranian officials are delaying the public announcement of a successor due to security concerns. These concerns stem from public statements by the United States and Israel suggesting that any new leader could be targeted for neutralization. Mojtaba Khamenei, the 56-year-old son of the late Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, is considered the primary candidate for the position. While Mozaffari has urged the public to avoid speculation, international tensions and security threats continue to complicate the transition process.
