Cypriot authorities investigate drone incident and links to Iranian Revolutionary Guards
Cypriot security services, in cooperation with foreign agencies, had been on alert regarding a potential drone threat several days before an unmanned aerial vehicle crashed into the British Bases on the island. Authorities had received intelligence in late February concerning individuals with suspected links to Iran and the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps. Following this intelligence, security measures were heightened, particularly around sites of Israeli interests in Cyprus. Police subsequently arrested a 28-year-old Azerbaijani national and a 27-year-old Estonian woman in Larnaca. Both individuals remain in custody as they face investigation for terrorism-related offenses. The arrests coincide with intelligence reports that the 28-year-old suspect had allegedly traveled to Iran multiple times and may have been recruited by the Revolutionary Guards. The authorities continue to evaluate the data to determine the full scope of the plot.
