Kalamata FC secures promotion to the Greek Super League after 26 years

On Saturday, March 7, Kalamata FC secured a mathematical return to the Greek Super League after a 26-year absence. The team defeated Panionios 1-0 in a match held at Nea Smyrni stadium during the 4th round of the South Group playoffs. The winning goal was scored by Moreira in the 38th minute. The game was marked by significant tension, resulting in a red card for Panionios player Dimitris Kolovos in the 19th minute following a confrontation with Mantzis. Despite playing with ten men, Panionios maintained control of possession for portions of the match. Kalamata is managed by Alekos Vosniadis, while Pavlos Dermitzakis serves as the coach for Panionios. This result concludes a multi-decade period for Kalamata in lower divisions. Iraklis has also previously secured promotion to the top flight for the upcoming season.
