Panathinaikos removes Dejan Bodiroga's banner following refereeing disputes
Following the 30th round match of the EuroLeague against Olympiacos at the Peace and Friendship Stadium (SEF), Panathinaikos AKTOR expressed strong dissatisfaction with the officiating. In protest, the club management decided to remove the banner of EuroLeague president Dejan Bodiroga from the ceiling of the OAKA arena. Bodiroga, who played for Panathinaikos from 1998 to 2002 and won two EuroLeague titles with the team, remains an iconic figure for the club. Club owner Dimitris Giannakopoulos stated that the action was not impulsive, but a protective measure against perceived systemic unfairness and indifference from league officials. Giannakopoulos criticized the current administration, drawing parallels to his past conflicts with former executive Jordi Bertomeu. He emphasized that the club demands respect and will continue to contest decisions that negatively impact the team's performance. The team also highlighted recent officiating concerns from matches against Paris and Olympiacos as reasons for their escalation.
