Reports emerge on potential deployment of Turkish F-16s to Northern Cyprus
Turkish media reports, including CNN Turk, suggest that Ankara is considering the deployment of six F-16 fighter jets to the occupied territories of Cyprus for security reasons. While some reports indicated an arrival date of March 9, the Turkish cabinet is set to formally discuss these plans and the timing of such an operation under the presidency of Tayyip Erdogan. This potential move is framed by Turkish sources as a response to the increased military presence of Greece and other nations in the Eastern Mediterranean. Simultaneously, Cyprus prepares to host Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis and French President Emmanuel Macron in Paphos for regional coordination talks. The Cypriot government has stated that these reports are being evaluated and emphasized that its own defensive measures are purely precautionary. Meanwhile, opposition leader Ozgur Ozel has publicly called for the reinforcement of Turkish military and naval forces in the region. The Cypriot government reiterated that it remains committed to a peaceful resolution and continues to coordinate with European partners.
