Police warning regarding video call fraud in Cyprus

The Cyprus Police Cybercrime Unit has issued warnings regarding an ongoing fraud scheme involving video calls. Fraudsters use communication applications to pose as either bank officials from Revolut or police officers to gain the trust of citizens. By using official logos or impersonating authorities, they pressure victims into disclosing sensitive information such as PIN codes, banking credentials, and personal identity data. As of March 7, 2026, the authorities have confirmed receiving multiple reports of these incidents. The police emphasize that they never contact citizens via these methods and urge the public to remain vigilant. If a citizen has already provided financial information to these individuals, they are advised to immediately contact their bank to secure their accounts. The primary goal of these attackers is the theft of funds from personal bank accounts.
