Cyprus parliamentary committee to review funding for traffic camera fine enforcement
The Cyprus parliamentary committee on finance is scheduled to vote on the release of 146,640 euros plus VAT for the implementation of a new 'Photo Radar List' system. This initiative aims to address the issue of undelivered traffic fines issued by the road safety camera system. The project specifically includes the technical upgrade required to issue and deliver notices to owners of vehicles with Turkish Cypriot license plates. According to the Ministry of Finance, these funds will cover the procurement of services, system maintenance, and operation by a contractor. Police traffic department director Charis Evripidou stated that once the list is operational, police officers will facilitate the service of fines that were not initially delivered by the contractor. Checks will be conducted at police stations, checkpoints, and during the issuance of criminal record certificates. The proposal is currently pending approval by the committee members.
