Iranian UN envoy reports 1,332 deaths amid ongoing conflict with US and Israel

Amir Saeid Iravani, Iran's Permanent Representative to the UN, stated that his country has been under military attack by the United States and Israel since February 28, 2026. According to Iravani, the conflict has resulted in at least 1,332 civilian deaths and thousands of injuries as of March 7, 2026. He accused the coalition of targeting civilian infrastructure, including schools, hospitals, and residential areas, while citing a specific attack on a girls' school in Minab. Furthermore, Iravani condemned recent remarks by the U.S. President regarding the selection of a new Supreme Leader in Iran as a violation of the UN Charter's principle of non-interference. While Tehran officials initially attributed the destruction of civilian sites to direct military strikes, they have also launched an investigation into whether some damage resulted from intercepted projectiles or U.S. air defense interference.
