Cyprus government intervenes in GeSY software management dispute

The President of the Republic of Cyprus has directed the Minister of Health and the Deputy Minister of Innovation to assist the Health Insurance Organization (HIO) in resolving legal disputes regarding the GeSY health system software. The current contract with the software provider is set to expire in May. The HIO aims to take over full management of the system upon contract expiration. A primary point of contention between the HIO and the current provider is the ownership of the software, with the HIO claiming ownership and the provider disputing this claim. Negotiations are currently underway to resolve these issues before the contract ends. If the dispute is not settled by early April, the potential for operational risks to the health system increases. Government intervention is intended to help the HIO navigate these complex legal and technical challenges to ensure continuity of service.
