Dynacom Tankers continues operations in the Strait of Hormuz despite regional conflict
Financial Times reported that the Dynacom Tankers shipping company, led by 79-year-old Greek shipowner George Prokopiou, continues to operate through the Strait of Hormuz. While many shipowners have paused transits in the Persian Gulf, Gulf of Oman, and Northern Arabian Sea due to escalating threats and conflict in the Middle East, Prokopiou's firm maintains its routes. Market analysts, referred to as shipbrokers in the report, suggest that these operations are driven by high economic incentives. According to Argus Media, daily rates for a Very Large Crude Carrier (VLCC) transporting oil to China through the Strait can reach between $500,000 and $700,000, excluding war risk insurance premiums. The report characterizes the strategy as a high-risk business decision given the volatility of the region. Iran has previously threatened to target vessels navigating these waters, contributing to the heightened security risks mentioned by market participants.
