Man arrested outside GADA headquarters in Athens after bomb threats
A foreign national was arrested outside the Athens Police Headquarters (GADA) on Alexandras Avenue after threatening to use explosives. During the incident, authorities established a security perimeter, resulting in the closure of Alexandras Avenue and nearby streets. A police officer from the DIAS unit engaged the individual in conversation, demanding a phone, while two other officers approached from behind to immobilize him. The man was holding one grenade in his hand and carried a backpack containing two additional grenades. While preliminary inspections suggest the grenades may be live, they have been sent to bomb disposal experts for formal laboratory testing. Reports indicate the individual may be homeless or suffering from mental health issues. No injuries were reported during the arrest procedure.
