Reports suggest Russia provided targeting data to Iran amid conflict

According to reports by the Associated Press and the Washington Post citing anonymous U.S. officials, Russia has allegedly shared intelligence with Iran regarding the locations of U.S. military assets, including warships, aircraft, and bases in the Middle East. This intelligence sharing, if verified, would mark a significant shift as one of the first signs of direct Russian involvement in the conflict that began approximately one week ago. While Iran has launched numerous drone and missile attacks against U.S. interests, officials noted that Iranian targeting capabilities had been previously degraded by joint U.S.-Israeli operations, which have struck over 2,000 targets. The U.S. administration, including White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt and Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth, has downplayed the severity of these reports. Officials emphasized that U.S. operations remain effective, noting that they are in the process of dismantling Iranian military capabilities. Meanwhile, the conflict has resulted in casualties, including six U.S. reservists killed in a drone strike at a facility in Port Shuwaikh, Kuwait. Russia has publicly called for an end to the hostilities, labeling the situation as an unprovoked armed attack.
