UEFA sanctions Real Madrid for fan misconduct
UEFA has fined Real Madrid 15,000 euros following reports of racist behavior and a Nazi salute performed by a supporter during the Champions League playoff match against Benfica. While the match concluded with a 2-1 victory for Real Madrid, securing their place in the round of 16 against Manchester City, the disciplinary action remains a point of focus. The club identified and expelled the individual responsible for the gesture immediately after the match, subsequently initiating expulsion proceedings against them. As part of the sanction, UEFA ordered the partial closure of the south stand at the Santiago Bernabeu stadium, specifically 500 seats. However, reports differ on the immediate implementation of this stadium closure, as some sources indicate it is suspended for a one-year probationary period. Real Madrid officially condemned the actions and cooperated with security staff to remove the offending member. The team is scheduled to play Manchester City on March 11.
