Consumer rights regarding package tour cancellations in the Middle East
The Cyprus Consumer Protection Service has issued official guidance regarding package tour cancellations amidst the ongoing instability in the Middle East. A package tour is defined as a combination of at least two travel services, such as transport, accommodation, or car rental, sold under a single contract. According to the guidelines, travelers have the right to terminate their contract without penalty if unavoidable and extraordinary circumstances significantly affect the destination. These circumstances include war, major security issues, health risks, or natural disasters. In such cases, travelers are entitled to a full refund of payments made, although they are not eligible for additional compensation. Organizers also maintain the right to terminate contracts if they cannot fulfill them due to these events and must provide a full refund. Alternatively, organizers may propose postponing or rescheduling the trip as a potential solution for affected customers.
