Cyprus tourism sector navigates regional instability
Cyprus Deputy Tourism Minister Costas Koumis and Paphos Tourism Board President Michalis Mitas have affirmed that the island remains a safe destination despite regional tensions in the Middle East. While authorities acknowledge a slowdown in bookings and temporary flight cancellations, they emphasize that the tourism sector continues to operate largely as normal. Most European airlines have resumed or maintained flights, though connections with Middle Eastern carriers remain interrupted. The Israel market, which represents 11.4 percent of arrivals with high average daily expenditures, is among those affected. Officials are prioritizing the restoration of air connectivity and are focusing on long-term growth for 2026, targeting sectors such as sports, wellness, and agro-tourism. Industry leaders note that the situation remains manageable, provided there is no further escalation of the conflict. Tour operators have not yet indicated plans to reduce their 2026 programs for the island, maintaining optimism for recovery.
