Authorities investigate the escape of a 32-year-old remand prisoner from Cyprus
A 32-year-old man, currently standing trial for attempted murder, has reportedly left the Republic of Cyprus despite having active criminal proceedings against him. In response to this incident, the Minister of Justice and Public Order, Costas Fytiris, has ordered an investigation into the handling of the suspect by the Central Prisons authorities. Simultaneously, the Chief of Police has appointed an investigating officer to conduct an administrative probe into police actions, following direct instructions from the Attorney General of the Republic. Media reports suggest the individual was later located in Romania, noting confusion surrounding his warrant status and psychiatric facility involvement. The Minister of Justice has mandated that the findings of both investigations be submitted immediately upon their conclusion. These inquiries aim to determine how the defendant was able to exit the country without being apprehended by the relevant authorities.
