Annita Dimitriou criticizes AKEL over position on foreign military presence in Cyprus

President of the DISY party, Annita Dimitriou, publicly criticized the leftist AKEL party regarding recent statements concerning the presence of foreign armed forces in Cyprus. Dimitriou questioned how anyone could feel less secure with the support of the Greek military and other international partners during regional instability. She urged national unity and stated that political ideological fixations should be set aside given the current threats. Furthermore, she clarified that the Republic of Cyprus is not participating in any military conflict but remains part of the solution. She emphasized that the country is prioritizing its defense and stability, confirming that she shared these views with the President of the Republic. Dimitriou also expressed concern over uncertainty following recent incidents at British bases on the island. She stressed that the security of citizens is the top priority for her party, which intends to support all responsible initiatives to ensure national stability.
