New penalty system for red light violations in Cyprus

Effective March 6, 2026, the Cyprus Council of Ministers has introduced new, non-retroactive fines for red light violations recorded by the photo-enforcement system under Law 91(I)/2024. Crossing the mandatory white stop line at a controlled junction is now subject to a 25-euro fine. Entering a pedestrian crossing while a red signal is active incurs a fine of 85 euros and three penalty points. If a vehicle proceeds beyond the pedestrian crossing, the penalty increases to 300 euros and three points. The same 300-euro fine and three-point penalty apply to vehicles entering a junction past the stop line where no pedestrian crossing exists.
