Akrotiri schools to remain closed on March 9, 2026

The Cypriot Ministry of Education, Sports and Youth has announced that the primary school, the nursery school, and the environmental education center in the village of Akrotiri will remain closed on Monday, March 9, 2026. This decision serves as a precautionary measure following a drone strike on the nearby British Akrotiri air force base, which occurred after midnight last Monday. Authorities have mandated the activation of distance learning protocols for students at the primary and nursery schools. The Ministry’s Educational Psychology Service is providing support to students, staff, and parents between 07:30 and 15:00. Telephone support lines have been established for Nicosia, Larnaca-Famagusta, and Limassol-Paphos districts to address concerns arising from the situation. The closure applies to all teaching staff, students, and other school personnel. The schools have been closed since the incident took place last week.
