Cyprus foreign minister addresses regional security and drone incidents

Cypriot Foreign Minister Constantinos Kombos stated that the Republic of Cyprus is not a target in the ongoing Middle East conflict, noting that recent drone attacks and security alerts were directed at British military bases on the island. Despite regional tensions, Kombos emphasized that daily life in Cyprus remains normal, with schools and businesses operating as usual and flight traffic levels nearly restored to pre-attack volumes. To enhance security, the United Kingdom has deployed the HMS Dragon destroyer and two Wildcat helicopters to the region. The Republic of Cyprus is also receiving support from Greece, France, Italy, and Spain. Kombos highlighted Cyprus's humanitarian role, noting that the country is not involved in any military operations. In a 24-hour period, approximately 500 Cypriot and European citizens were repatriated, representing two-thirds of those seeking to leave the region. He praised the swift response of Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis and other European allies in providing assistance.
