Escalation of conflict between Israel and Hezbollah

Overnight, the Israeli military conducted 26 waves of airstrikes against the southern suburbs of Beirut, specifically targeting Hezbollah command centers and weapons storage facilities. Prior to the strikes, Israel issued evacuation orders for residents in four districts of the capital, including areas near Beirut airport. In response, Hezbollah issued a warning on its Telegram channel early Friday, urging residents of Israeli towns within 5 kilometers of the border to evacuate. Hezbollah characterized the Israeli actions as an assault on Lebanese sovereignty and infrastructure, vowing that the campaign will not go unchallenged. While Israel has deployed additional soldiers into Lebanon, officials stated there are currently no plans to evacuate Israeli border towns. Tensions have intensified since Monday, when Hezbollah initiated fire, prompting a broad Israeli offensive targeting southern and eastern Lebanon alongside the capital. Tens of thousands of Israeli residents had previously been evacuated from the border area earlier in 2024, though many have since returned to their homes. The conflict continues to escalate with mutual warnings and sustained military operations from both parties.
