Stelios Philanthropic Foundation donates 10 million euros for medical staffing in Greek islands

The Stelios Philanthropic Foundation has pledged 10 million euros over a seven-year period to support medical services on 47 small Greek islands. The donation aims to provide financial incentives to retain 80 doctors in peripheral and multidisciplinary regional medical offices. These facilities are the smallest health units in the country and are distinct from larger hospitals or medical centers. The donation agreement was signed at the Maximos Mansion in Athens in the presence of Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, Foundation President Stelios Haji-Ioannou, and Health Minister Adonis Georgiadis. The initiative intends to ensure consistent health service provision for island residents throughout the year. Prime Minister Mitsotakis noted that this is the first private donation focusing on medical staffing rather than infrastructure. The project addresses long-standing difficulties in recruiting and retaining permanent medical personnel in these remote locations.
