Cyprus tourism official comments on flight disruptions due to Middle East crisis
Deputy Minister of Tourism Kostas Koumis addressed the impact of recent Middle East geopolitical instability on Cyprus's tourism sector. Following his participation at the ITB Berlin travel trade show in Germany, Koumis stated that the primary issue discussed with strategic partners was the recent cancellation or reduction of flight schedules. He emphasized that the restoration of air connectivity is the government's top priority. Koumis noted that most European airlines have already resumed operations to Cyprus, with the full normalization of flights expected by the upcoming weekend. However, he acknowledged that carriers originating from Middle Eastern countries have not yet resumed their regular schedules. Despite these challenges, the official expressed optimism about the island's safety as a tourist destination. He also claimed that no major tour operators or airlines have signaled intentions to permanently reduce their programs in Cyprus.
