European commission issues new guidelines for digital education and AI
The European Commission has published four sets of guidelines as part of its Digital Education Action Plan. These documents aim to assist teachers in utilizing artificial intelligence and data, promoting digital literacy, selecting high-quality content, and teaching informatics. The guidelines focus on the ethical and legal use of AI to boost educators' confidence. They also address the challenges of generative AI, social media addiction, and the influence of online content creators by encouraging critical thinking. A key component of this release is the establishment of the first EU-wide definition of digital educational content alongside specific quality criteria. Executive Vice-President for People, Skills and Readiness, Roxana Minzatu, highlighted that these tools are intended to empower teachers as digital guides. Furthermore, the guidelines for teaching informatics provide new strategies for assessment in diverse school environments. The Commission plans to release an additional educational package later this year.
