President Christodoulides addresses regional tensions and security in Cyprus

Cypriot President Nikos Christodoulides addressed recent regional security concerns, stating that all attacks recorded in Cyprus so far have targeted exclusively the British sovereign bases and primarily originated from Lebanon. He emphasized that there have only been two drone attacks to date. The President noted that while he cannot rule out the possibility of ballistic missile threats from Iran, the current situation is being monitored closely. Christodoulides highlighted that Cyprus has upgraded its national defense systems and is working in coordination with European partners, including Greece, France, Italy, and Spain, for additional security measures. He expressed dissatisfaction with some international reports, characterizing them as exaggerated. Furthermore, the President confirmed that the government does not exclude the possibility of initiating a discussion regarding the status of the British bases. He also addressed a recent mass SMS alert, clarifying it was a test transmission. He urged the public to remain calm and stated that the government's top priority remains the safety of the Cypriot people.
