Cyprus president clarifies nature of regional attacks
Cypriot President Nikos Christodoulides stated in an interview with SKAI that all reported attacks in Cyprus have exclusively targeted British military bases rather than the Republic of Cyprus itself. He identified the primary source of these attacks as Lebanon, noting he remains in constant communication with the Lebanese president. While acknowledging the possibility of Iranian ballistic missile threats, Christodoulides clarified that regional activity often involves missiles transiting through the Mediterranean toward Israel. He emphasized that Cyprus has significantly upgraded its national defense systems and is collaborating with British forces to maintain security. Furthermore, he highlighted unprecedented support from European partners, including Greece, France, Italy, and Spain. Greece has responded by deploying F-16 fighter jets and naval frigates to bolster local security. The president criticized international media for exaggerating the situation and confirmed that only two drone attacks have occurred to date. He continues to monitor regional developments closely and maintains active consultations with European counterparts.
