Cyprus parliament condemns drone attack on British bases

The Cyprus House of Representatives has officially passed a resolution condemning a drone attack that occurred within the territory of British bases in Cyprus. The approved motion, submitted by the DISY, DIKO, and DIPA parliamentary groups, received 28 votes in favor, 16 against, and 4 abstentions. Parties voting in favor included the sponsors, ELAM, and independent MP Andreas Themistokleous, while AKEL members, Irene Charalambidou, and Kostis Efstathiou voted against it. EDEK, the Greens, and Alexandra Attalidou abstained. The House explicitly rejected an alternative resolution proposed by the AKEL parliamentary group. The approved text emphasizes that the Republic of Cyprus is not involved in any military operations. It further expresses concern over Iranian actions against other non-combatant states in the region, including Jordan, the UAE, Kuwait, Bahrain, Qatar, Iraq, Saudi Arabia, and Oman. The resolution calls for maintaining stability and security in the Eastern Mediterranean region.
