Paphos municipality seals abandoned community building after reports of drug use
The Paphos Municipality has sealed a vacant building in the Mouttalos district following reports that it was being used for drug consumption. The property previously housed a community center for the elderly until it was closed in September due to low attendance and the consolidation of services elsewhere. Acting Mayor Angelos Onisiforou stated that this is the third time the building has been cleaned and secured since its closure, as trespassers repeatedly breach the entry points. Recent social media footage showed evidence of drug paraphernalia inside, prompting immediate municipal action to clean and disinfect the site. Police intervention in previous instances resulted in the arrest of four individuals found on the premises, while other intruders managed to escape. Municipal workers have now hermetically sealed windows and doors to prevent further illegal access. The municipality is currently evaluating long-term plans to repurpose the building for the benefit of the local community.
