Union requests remote work for civilian staff at British bases in Cyprus
The Pasydy union branch representing civilian employees at British bases in Cyprus has formally requested the implementation of teleworking. In a letter addressed to Deputy Command Secretary Stephen Dougan on Thursday, the union cited concerns regarding the current unstable regional security situation and escalating military conflicts. General Secretary Stratis Matthaiou emphasized that remote work should be activated for all staff whose duties can be performed off-site. The request follows previous evacuations of personnel at the RAF Akrotiri base, which reportedly transitioned to essential security staffing. Union representatives expressed concern that no similar guidance has been issued for employees at the Episkopi, Dhekelia, and Ayios Nikolaos bases. This discrepancy has reportedly created uncertainty among the workforce. The union warned that failing to address these security risks could expose personnel to unnecessary danger. Officials are now being urged to prioritize the safety of workers and establish clear remote working protocols immediately.
