Justice minister visits Akrotiri to discuss regional security
On Thursday, Cypriot Minister of Justice and Public Order Costas Fytiris visited the Akrotiri community following an increase in regional security levels to the maximum degree. The Minister held a meeting at the Akrotiri Community Council with Kourion Mayor Pantelis Georgiou, Deputy Mayor of Akrotiri Giorgos Konstantinou, British Bases District Officer Giorgos Kiteos, and Assistant Police Director of the British Bases Melina Papagrigoriou. Fytiris stated that the objective was to ensure normality for local residents. The Ministry of Justice expressed its readiness to provide support from the Cypriot Police and Fire Service to local authorities. The Minister emphasized that these efforts involve cooperation with the British Bases, given that the Kourion municipality is located adjacent to the Akrotiri Airport. While the visit was part of a planned trip to the Limassol district, it was deemed necessary to address security concerns raised by local authorities. The Minister reiterated that the government is fully committed to assisting with any security requirements requested by the mayor and the local community.
