Minister of justice inspects detention center facilities in Limnes and Menogeia
Minister of Justice and Public Order Costas Fytiris conducted an inspection of the pre-departure detention center currently under construction in Limnes. He also visited the existing migrant detention facilities in Menogeia to assess the progress of ongoing projects. Officials briefed the minister on current construction statuses and completion timelines. Plans dictate that once the new Limnes facility is operational, all detainees currently held in Menogeia will be transferred there. Following this transfer, the Menogeia site is scheduled for repurposing as a specialized facility for the detention of minors, including infrastructure for juvenile prison operations. Additionally, the Ministry is exploring alternative uses for the Menogeia site as part of a broader strategy to alleviate overcrowding in the central prison system. The project is described by the government as an effort to modernize correctional infrastructure. The primary objectives are to improve administrative efficiency and ensure the functionality of the correctional system.
