Labor minister briefs social partners on pension reform

On Thursday, Labor Minister Marinos Mousiouttas met with the Labor Advisory Board to discuss the progress of the national pension reform. A ministry actuary provided a technical briefing on key aspects of the reform, focusing on system sustainability, benefit adequacy, and equal treatment for different categories of beneficiaries. The Minister expressed optimism that legislation regarding the first pillar of the reform will be submitted to the new Parliament by June, following the May parliamentary elections. Furthermore, a proposal for the timeline and framework of the second pillar is scheduled for discussion in March. The meeting also covered an alignment bill aimed at reinforcing the principle of equal pay between men and women. This consultative process involved input from social partners on specific parameters of the proposed changes.
