Cyprus adjusts EU presidency schedule amid security concerns

Cyprus is currently adjusting the schedule for its six-month EU presidency due to regional security alerts concerning potential Iranian drone threats. Following reports of retaliatory tensions involving Tehran, the island nation has faced disruptions to its diplomatic calendar. A meeting of the 27 EU ministers for European affairs, originally set for Monday and Tuesday to discuss the seven-year budget and the accession paths of Ukraine and Moldova, has been postponed. Additionally, an EU culture ministers' meeting scheduled for Wednesday in Ayia Napa has been deferred without a new date, as confirmed by the EU cybersecurity agency ENISA. A summit on rare diseases previously planned for Thursday has also been cancelled. Cypriot officials maintain that the country remains functional and that the presidency's overall work will proceed as planned. Authorities stated they are monitoring the situation closely and will coordinate with EU institutions to adapt actions as necessary.
