European nations deploy naval assets to the Eastern Mediterranean near Cyprus

Several European nations, including France, the Netherlands, Spain, and the United Kingdom, are deploying naval assets to the Eastern Mediterranean to protect Cyprus. The Dutch government is considering the deployment of the air defense frigate HNLMS Evertsen to support the French aircraft carrier strike group led by the Charles de Gaulle. Spanish authorities announced the dispatch of a frigate, Cristobal Colon, to assist in air defense and potential civilian evacuation missions. French forces, including the frigate Languedoc, are already operating off the coast of Cyprus. The Italian government has also signaled its intention to join this coordinated effort to support regional stability. The deployments follow reported threats to Cyprus from drone attacks. The HNLMS Evertsen, if deployed, carries advanced Aegis combat systems and a crew of approximately 200 personnel.
