Polis Chrysochous municipality revokes permanent hiring of workers following investigation
The Municipality of Polis Chrysochous has revoked its decision to hire and grant permanent status to 17 hourly workers. This action followed a recommendation from Minister of Interior Constantinos Ioannou, who ordered the revocation after an administrative investigation. The investigation revealed that municipal deputy mayors participated irregularly in the hiring process, as they are first-degree relatives of three of the hired workers. Minister Ioannou had warned that he would personally annul the decisions if the municipality failed to act. The findings of the investigation were forwarded to the Attorney General to determine if any criminal offenses were committed by the municipal council or the deputy mayors. Simultaneously, the municipality has initiated a new recruitment process for the 17 positions, asserting that they are essential for service operations. Interested candidates must submit applications to the Department of Administrative Services by 12:00 noon on Wednesday, March 11, 2026.
