Municipality of Polis Chrysochous revokes hiring of 17 workers
The Municipality of Polis Chrysochous has formally revoked its decision to grant permanent status to 17 hourly workers following an administrative investigation by the Ministry of Interior. Interior Minister Konstantinos Ioannou ordered the cancellation after the inquiry revealed that deputy mayors participated in the recruitment process despite having first-degree familial ties to at least three of the workers. While some reports suggest four of the hired individuals were children of deputy mayors, the official ministry findings specified three cases of direct conflict of interest. Minister Ioannou had threatened to intervene directly if the municipal council failed to execute the revocation. The case file has been forwarded to the Attorney General to determine if criminal charges are warranted against the council members or deputy mayors involved. The municipality has now issued a new call for applications to fill the 17 positions, with a submission deadline of Wednesday, March 11, 2026, at 12:00 p.m. at the municipal administrative offices.
