Irene Charalambidou announces cooperation with ALMA movement
Independent Member of Parliament Irene Charalambidou held a press conference on Thursday to announce her candidacy for the upcoming parliamentary elections in Nicosia in cooperation with the ALMA movement. Led by Odysseas Michaelides, ALMA stands for Dignity, Accountability, Reform, and Development. Charalambidou, who recently ended her 15-year association with the AKEL party, emphasized that this is a professional partnership rather than full party membership. The movement's transitional executive secretariat approved her candidacy following a meeting held at 7:30 a.m. on Thursday. To accommodate her independent status, ALMA is amending its statutes to waive the requirement for elected candidates to register as party members. Charalambidou stated that her cooperation with Michaelides is based on a shared focus on accountability and the fight against corruption. She stressed that her independence will be maintained throughout this political collaboration.
