Eirini Charalambidou announces legislative candidacy with Alma movement

On March 5, 2026, independent member of parliament Eirini Charalambidou officially announced her candidacy for the upcoming parliamentary elections alongside the Alma movement. The announcement followed a press conference in Nicosia where she clarified that she remains an independent and will not formally join the party. To facilitate this, the Alma movement, led by Odysseas Michaelides, amended its statutes to allow non-member candidates on its ballot. Both parties emphasized that their cooperation is built on shared goals, specifically the fight against corruption, accountability, and reform. The movement's secretariat approved her candidacy following a meeting earlier the same day. Charalambidou noted her long-standing professional relationship with Michaelides, dating back to 1987. The initiative aims to present a strong voice in the House of Representatives, with the candidates running under the banner of dignity, accountability, reform, and growth. Charalambidou recently ended her long-term association with the AKEL party.
