European nations summon Iranian ambassadors over regional drone and missile attacks

The United Kingdom and the Netherlands have officially summoned Iranian ambassadors to protest against recent drone and missile strikes across the Middle East. British Middle East Minister Hamish Falconer condemned the targeting of the British Akrotiri air force base in Cyprus, which occurred on Monday. The UK government announced it will deploy the destroyer HMS Dragon and two AW159 Wildcat helicopters to Cyprus to strengthen its defensive capabilities. Additionally, the Italian government summoned the Iranian ambassador earlier in the week to demand non-involvement in the regional conflict. Dutch Foreign Minister Tom Berendsen confirmed that the Netherlands also issued a formal protest concerning attacks on Gulf countries, Cyprus, and Turkey. While Western officials characterize these actions as escalatory threats to security, the Iranian embassy in The Hague has not provided a formal response. The measures are part of a coordinated European diplomatic effort to address Iranian military activities in the region.
