AKEL General Secretary meets with Cyprus Electricity Authority board

On Wednesday, Stefanos Stefanou, General Secretary of the Progressive Party of Working People (AKEL), held a meeting with the chairman and board members of the Electricity Authority of Cyprus (EAC) to discuss the national energy situation. Stefanou emphasized the necessity of ensuring electricity supply security, adequacy, and lower consumer costs. He identified the lack of natural gas imports as a primary factor contributing to high electricity prices in Cyprus. Referencing previous power outages, Stefanou warned that geographic isolation increases the need for comprehensive energy planning and infrastructure investments. He publicly criticized the government, characterizing its current energy policy as passive and incomplete. Stefanou called upon the administration to take responsibility and implement a long-term strategy to prevent future power failures. The EAC board of directors and technical experts participated in the discussions to address these strategic challenges.
