UK reinforces air defenses at RAF Akrotiri following drone incident
The United Kingdom Ministry of Defence confirmed that a Shahed-type drone targeted the RAF Akrotiri base in Cyprus around midnight on March 2. Officials clarified that the drone was not launched from Iran. In response to this event, the UK has initiated a reinforcement of air defense systems across its regional British and allied bases. This includes the deployment of British-manufactured anti-aircraft missiles. Furthermore, Royal Navy Wildcat helicopters equipped with Martlet missiles are scheduled to arrive in Cyprus in the coming days to enhance protective capabilities. Meanwhile, RAF Typhoon and F-35B aircraft, supported by Voyager refueling tankers, continue to conduct defensive air operations throughout the Middle East to protect British and allied interests.
